A decision on my theme...........

Hi Jerry... (and fellow class member(s))

I decided I plan to photograph images correlated with the theme of intimacy. I like this concept and have had so many ideas on what I want to try and take.

So Jerry.... we have to post 6-10 pictures to photothing per week... plus 1 or 2 so we'd like to share and comment on within this blog, correct? Otherwise, are you going to give us any direction on what you'd like us to focus on per week? Flash, no flash?

And would it be okay if we combined themes as we went along.... If I decided to switch it up and go with something new would that be okay?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Stieglitz

This image is from Stieglitz' series entitled "Equivalents". His mood seems obvious enough to interpret here.... chaotic, erratic... angry....depressed... I'd like to see the photograph he captured right before the calm before this particular storm.

thoughts on a theme....

Hi Jerry... Hi Class!

I'm contemplating different ideas for a theme that I can work with over the course of the next 8 weeks. I have big ideas but I'm afraid I'm not technically skilled enough to excel at taking pictures of the people I love... in a way that I would be proud of....I'm not so sure I would actually capture anything close to what I want to express.

SOOO... I was thinking of doing something more abstract. I really gravitate towards abstract art in general and find myself photographing images based on what I'm emotionally feeling. I find that I do tend to interpret images slightly different than most. I looked at the cloud photos that Stieglitz took entitled, "Equivalents." From what I gather, they were supposed to represent his emotional state of mind.... and I walked away from that inspired to see what my emotional state of mind could capture too....

Although I'm still feeling out other ideas... such as "intimacy" and taking pictures based on my interpretation of what intimacy looks like... perhaps in even unsuspecting places.

I hope to have something solid by the weekend.

Hi everyone.

Hi Jerry... Hi class...

My name is Michelle and I've just completed Jerry's first digital photography class in Mod 5. I really enjoyed the experience and look forward to beginning phase two! I'm working on completing my bachelor's degree at AMC... and as a senior, I only have 5 more electives to complete. I recently decided that I'd like to continue on with a Master's in Art Therapy so taking studio art courses is a must in order to gain acceptance.

I'm a beginner... but have found that taking pictures as an outlet is incredibly rewarding. I'm learning a lot about myself through the process. I look forward to seeing everyone's pictures... Best of luck!

Welcome to Digital Photo II

Hi Everyone!

To get things started, let me tell you a bit about myself.... I have been teaching full time at Albertus Magnus College for the past 30 years and am grateful for the opportunity to spend my life working with students who want to learn more about art. I've been married for the past 34 years, and have 2 wonderful sons, 26 and 30. My older son is married and has two sons.... (All living with us!) ...a 2 year old and a 3 month old. He works for Disney as an Art Director and Graphic Designer in their book division.

My main interest is photography and I earned an M.F.A. in still photography from Rochester Institute of Technology. At Albertus I teach not only Photography but a range of other courses which include Digital Photography both online and face to face, Foundation Design (2-D and 3-D), Graphic Design, Ceramics, Intro to Computer Art, 20th Century Art History, and a new course I developed, The Museum Experience.

To learn more about me, take a look at my web site,
http://jnevins.com. You can find a statement of my teaching philosophy (very student centered), syllabi form my other classes, a resume (called a Curriculum Vita in academic circles), tutorials on digital photography issues, portfolios of my work and more.

I look forward to working with you!
